In the United Progressive Pentecostal Church Fellowship, is a sacrament of Holy Orders in the Body of Christ.
Within the UPPC, two degrees of ministerial participation exist: the episcopacy (Bishops, Apostles and Overseers) and the presbyterate (Senior Pastors). The diaconate is intended to help, assist and serve them. Deacons are called to assist in these 5 areas:
- To complete the hierarchy of sacred orders and to enrich and strengthen the overall ministries within the Body of Christ.
- To enlist a new group of devout and competent women and men in the active ministry of the local Church with their gifts; through visitation, pastoral and member care, stewardship development, leadership etc....
- To aid the community through service, advocacy, justice and compassion.
- To provide an official and sacramental presence of the Church in areas of secular life.
- To provide a body of servants to the National Church for greater effectiveness.
